Nathaniel Hawthorne

(1804 – 1864) Born Nathaniel Hathorne (the author may have added the "w" to his surname, in an effort to dissociate himself from his notorious forebears). An American novelist and short story writer, best-known today for his many short stories and his romance novels "The Scarlet Letter", "The House of the Seven Gables", "The Blithedale Romance", and "The Marble Faun".
