Thomas Hobbes


(1588 – 1679) Full name: Thomas Hobbes of Malmesbury, in some older texts Thomas Hobbs of Malmsbury. An English philosopher, best known today as one of the founders of modern political philosophy. His book "Leviathan" established the foundation for most of Western political philosophy from the perspective of social contract theory.

During the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that conditions called war; and such a war, as if of every man, against every man.
